Inari©HerCreator. First, art nouveau trade picture I ever did. This image still stands as one of my best art nouveau-style cloth designs, despite five years of trying to out-do it. The wings in the background are just clip art: a trick with placing BMP images into Adobe Illustrator designs that I've been experimenting with for a while now.

...I mean, they only have three eyes between the two of them, and Sparky's are all wonky-like. Not that I don't love them. For our Illustration pet portrait assignment, I did the obvious choice and drew my two Boston Terriers, Sparky and the late Sam, exploring some undefined and unspeakably rugged mountain territory whilst decked out in full Inuit regalia. Props to Reagan Lodge for inspiring this way back when.

i liked doing these a lot. so i'll put them up here! all random characters that alex might run into on her adventures. the snobby king charles is named priscilla and the schipperke at the end (drawn twice in two different ways) is thora. i used to have an arctic fox character named thora but she's been turned into this since i don't draw her much anyway. i had a really snobby german pointer as well but didn't finish him in time :/ brush pen, pen, white gel pen.

There are some things I really like about this piece, and some things I just really don't. I wish I'd spent more time on the inking, I was trying something, and it just didn't really work. But I do like the color palette, it's much more muted than what I usually do, but I think the colors work nicely together. Assignment for a class, charity piece. I chose The Elephant Sanctuary, which takes in old and sick elephants that have been retired from zoos and circuses and gives them a chance to live as natural elephants, with no pressure to perform, plenty of space to roam, and special care as needed. So I was thinking along the lines of 'what do old ladies do when they get together?' Quilts are traditionally made to tell a story, to pass along down generations, like a memory. And if elephants have anything, it is a memory. So I felt that the peaceful activity of quilting would be a perfect thing for these three old Asian gals to be doing.

Painted with acrylics, inks, gouache, then frankensteined in Photoshop. It's a bit different from my original concept idea but I was pressed for time. =| And lo, I present Pidge, King of crumbs and drive by pooping. The pun... was not intended. Really. For Cornell's Urban Bird Celebration artist call. (And yes, there's a big error here.. a tuppans to the first to call it. :P)
